DLC 2026

The final and largest Key Club district event in Indiana went totally tubular this year!! The theme for DLC 2026 was Leadership Never Goes Out of Style and trust me, this weekend proved that leadership is just like leg warmers, mixtapes, and outrageous hair.... it never truly fades. From February 27th to March 1st at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the 74th Annual District Leadership Convention (DLC) brought together Key Clubbers from across the Indiana District for a weekend of service, leadership, and straight-up 80s vibes. The purpose of DLC? To connect, celebrate, and elect the next board who will keep the legacy going strong. Attendees had the chance to meet fellow Key Clubbers from all over the state, participate in some rad service projects, and engage in activities centered around the core values of Key Club with some retro sparkle of course! And let me tell you, the '25-'26 INDB worked nonstop to make sure this event was nothing short of spectacular, evening arriving early on February 26th to set everything up, talk about true dedication. A special thanks and shoutout to the IP (Immediate Past) E&P Committee: Dylan Crosby, Cadence Zeser, Josslyn Lee, and the grooviest chair (not including yours truly from the Service Committee, of course😉), Olivia Jones-McIntire. Liv absolutely crushed it this year, this event would not have been possible without her. And a much needed shoutout goes out to the disco queen herself, Heidi Polizotto, for always being there to support, their mother-daughter dynamic truly gave Hoosier a hoot. We would also like to shout out our amazing International Trustee, Grace Nelson, for attending. She even said our district was her favorite (sorry New York and Michigan, but Indiana brought the heat! 😌)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clubs from all over Indiana arrived at the hotel Friday night in their gorgeous 80s-themed outfits, ready to have fun, serve, and lead in style. Special shoutout to Garrett High School, who, in this humble webmaster’s opinion, had the best outfits of the night, truly dressed like they walked straight out of an MTV music video. When we were officially called to order Friday night by Governor Sweet Night, you could feel the passion for service radiating through the room like neon lights on a dance floor. Huge thanks to Isabel Schilling and Olive Levine for creating all the amazing slideshows throughout the weekend, they kept the vibes high and the transitions smoother than a cassette tape rewind. After a quick introduction of the 2025–2026 Board, we got right into action. Throughout the weekend, we heard lots of jokes from Sweet were they funny? Ummmm… you decide. My personal favorite of the night was: What is the king’s favorite song by Prince? Purple Reign. HAHAHAHAHA.  A big part of DLC is the appointment of the new executive board, including:

  • Governor
  • Secretary/Treasurer
  • Bulletin Editor
  • and, Webmaster

No candidates ran off the floor Friday night (thankfully), so the candidates running for positions were:
Dylan Crosby from Perry Meridian High School
Nifemi Oluwagbemiro from Shortridge High School
Olive Levine from Terre Haute South Vigo High School
And yours truly, Darrick Colon from Shortridge High School (I wonder who was appointed Webmaster hmmmmm)

All candidates gave incredible speeches Friday night that energized the crowd and set the tone of service for the weekend.
We also nominated an International Trustee candidate… but that’s classified information 👀… come to ICON 2026 to find out.
Our keynote speaker for the weekend was Cassandra Sandborn from Exodus Refugee.
Speaking of which the results for Governor Sweet’s Governor Project were absolutely incredible.

Thank you to the clubs:
  • Arsenal Tech
  • Columbus East
  • Franklin Central
  • Highland
  • Hobart
  • Perry Meridian
  • Rushville
  • Seymour
  • Shortridge
  • Speedway
  • Terre Haute South Vigo
  • and, Washington Township

Together, they exceeded the goal by raising $2,500 ($1000 more than the goal) and completing 190 service hours that’s what we call totally radical service. I would also like to give a special shoutout to the Sergeants-at-Arms, the most baby-faced cuties ever, Hannah Li, Shree Dalal, and Oliver Rodd, who kept us in line and made sure the weekend ran smoother than a fresh pair of roller skates.

Friday night also featured two amazing events (thanks again Liv!): The Talent Show which proved that Indiana Key Clubbers are owls like Hoosier… not, and I repeat, NOT songbirds, let’s be clear 💀 And of course… Pie the INDB.

This event was an absolute blast. We raised even more money for Exodus Refugee, with Shortridge’s own Darrick Colon and Terre Haute's Yash Parikh tying for the most pies to the face 11 pies each (a true badge of honor😭). In total, we raised $355 more for Exodus Refugee.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday kicked off with a morning energizer to get everyone pumped and ready to serve because nothing says leadership like being hyped at 8am.

We then announced the results of the LTG elections for the 2026–2027 service year. Congratulations once again to:
  • Heartland Division LtG - Rose Tial (Whiteland High School)
  • Johnny Appleseed Division LtG - Baya Holt (Garrett High School)
  • Lakeshore Division LtG - Christian Lutin (Washington Township High School)
  • Indy Metro Division (the best division, obviously) LtG - Ester Sui Tha Par (Perry Meridian High School)
  • Sagamore Division LtG - Paige Johnson (Crawfordsville High School)
  • Sycamore South Division LtG - Maryam Izadine (Indiana Digital Learning School)
  • Rose Division LtG - Londyn Whittaker (Rushville High School)
  • Vandalia Trail Division LtG  - Andrew Hegna (Terre Haute South Vigo High School)

Congratulations again to everyone your servant leadership journey is just getting started.

Next came the Service Projects, introduced by yours truly.

Big shoutout to the best committee (no bias… okay maybe a little) the Service Committee: Oliver Rodd, Addison Sorg, and Hannah Li for their hard work organizing these projects.

Projects included:
  • Origami mobiles for Local Daycares
  • Thank-you Cards for Kiwanis Clubs
  • Keychains for the Indianapolis Public Library
  • Necklaces for Aktion Clubs
  • Retro Suncatchers for local K-Kids and Builders Clubs
  • Dreamcatchers for Exodus Refugee
  • and, Paper Flower Bouquets

After working hard on service, we had lunch and welcomed some amazing servant leaders from the past, including:
  • Past Governors: Colin Prince, Louis Gallegos, and Jason Bunag
  • Past Secretary-Treasurer: Andrew Julian
  • Past Lieutenant Governors: Tristen Slaven and Camden Bell

We heard once again from Cassandra and from Susan Miles from Riley Children’s Hospital, and then we put those past leaders to work with a Miracle Minute to raise quick funds for Riley’s.

Speaking of the Riley, The Riley Award, this year’s was beautifully designed by:
  • Isabel Schilling - Crown Point High School
  • Skyler Bielick - Bloomington North High School

In total, Key Clubs across the Indiana District raised: $3,195.71 for Riley Children’s Hospital

The award went to: Perry Meridian High School, who raised an incredible $2,000.

We also heard from Kiwanis Governor Sue Prifogle before heading into workshop time.

Each INDB member and others led workshops covering:
  • Officer positions
  • Leadership skills
  • ICON information
  • Exodus Refugee
  • and even, College 101

Afterward, we had dinner and held a Round Robin session to meet new people because leadership is about connections! Networking but make it fun.

We held the President Precession to recognize the tremendous effort of the each president throughout the district honoring those attending DLC:
  • Landyn Lynch from Arsenal Tech, escorted by Tim Jones,
  • Paige Johnson from Crawfordsville, escorted by Kim Johnson,
  • Josslyn Lee from Fishers High escorted by Maryam Izadine,

  • Terry Nguyen from Whiteland Community, escorted by Rose Tial.

Then came the House of Delegates, where Delegates selected from each attending school were allowed to hear candidates give final speeches and be voted upon for appointment.

Also, four bylaw changes were passed, were very productive Hoosiers hehe!

Saturday night wrapped up with one final celebration of the service year our Governor's Ball and let me tell you, it was totally rad! Everyone showed up dressed to impress in their most dazzling outfits, ready to hit the dance floor and get groovy. The energy was electric, and the vibes immaculate. One of the biggest highlights of the night was the INDB's iconic group performance to "Dancing Queen" by ABBA. With choreography created by Nifemi and Cadence our own little dancing queens, we had the dance floor lit. (LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT) Iykyk. We proved that once and for all that you don't have to be perfectly on beat to have a good time. And in the case of Terre Haute South Vigo.... you don't even have to locate the beat to have a good time. (cough cough Shree). The Governor's Ball was the perfect send-off to an unforgettable service year, a night full of laughter, music, and memories that will definitely last longer than our sore feet (and in my case Elmo voice, again Iykyk) the next morning.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With a bittersweet passing of the gavel, Governor Dylan gave her first speech as Governor and officially adjourned the 74th DLC ending one unforgettable, totally rad weekend.

After that… there were just A LOT OF TEARS from the INDB.
