Highland is an outstanding club. Ranging from unique service projects to annual fundraisers, this club has all the assets and skills required to stand above the rest. They kick off the year with the beach sweep which involves members cleaning the Indiana lakeshore. Next they move into October with some scary ideas. They sponsor and run a haunted house open to all students in elementary school in Highland. This past year over 300 elementary school students showed up and went through the haunted house. Not only was there an amazing turnout from the elementary school but many high school students also helped in the efforts needed to put on this activity. Over 30 high school students showed up for set up the day before and 25 showed up to run the haunted house. On sweetest day they sell taffy apples to be given out 7th hour on sweetest day. Their catch phrase for this fundraiser was “You’re the apple of my eye”. |

Around Christmas every year they donate gifts to the Salvation Army. Also for three days the students help sort toys and on a fourth day they help needy parents pick out Christmas presents from the donated items for their children. Also during the winter they visit kindergarten classrooms and read along with Kiwanis members to the little children. At the end of each visit, the children are allowed to pick one book that they can keep and read with their parents. One main event that has served as a January DCM is their annual lock-in. They invite the Duneland division along with the rest of the Calumet division to join them at a local community center for a night of service projects, pizza and fun. Also this year they elected their new lieutenant governor at the lock-in. This year’s lock-in was attended by the Indiana Key Club governor and other board members for our district. |

Also recently they participated in our major emphasis project, High Five for Health. They ran a fitness fair for elementary school students on a half day in the high school gymnasium. Students of all ages enjoyed the activities and learned more about health and how important it is. |
