District Leadership Convention Recap
From March 4th to March 6th, over 100 Key Clubbers and advisors from across the state gathered for the 2022 District Leadership Convention (DLC). This year’s DLC was held in person at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Indianapolis airport. It was a great chance to meet fellow ambitious Key Clubbers, listen to great speakers, and eat some amazing food! This year, the theme was “the 70's” to celebrate Indiana District’s 70th anniversary. There was an abundance of bell bottoms, peace sign jewelry, fringy cardigans, circle sunglasses, and bright colors!
Our Keynote Speaker, Michelle Serna gave a speech about the importance of taking risks. Caucusing and voting sessions also occurred Friday evening after dinner. Candidates for Lieutenant Governor gave a speech to the causing room with their division in it. Meanwhile, candidates for executive positions circulated to each of the 7 rooms to give their first speech. Afterwards, elections were held for the position of Lieutenant Governor.
The bulk of DLC activities took place on Saturday. We had a great breakfast and then participated in a multitude of service activities: making upcycled dog toys for local shelters, making ABC books for Afghan refugees, making posters for Erika’s Lighthouse, writing letters to Key Clubbers in Japan, writing cards for kids in Riley Hospital for Children, and more! After the service projects, we had a luncheon with the Kiwanis Family and transitioned to workshops. There were 20 thirty minute workshops offered. Workshop topics ranged from club officer training to how to put together presentations to how to be more inclusive online. During dinner Saturday night, attendees witnessed the president's procession, and district awards were given out. Later that night, executive candidates gave their House of Delegates speeches in the hotel amphitheater to all attendees and adults in attendance. The student delegates cast their votes and the three executive board positions were elected. To close out the night, there were a bunch of fun games and activities for attendees to partake in.
On Sunday, attendees witnessed the Governor’s farewell, the retirement of the 2021-2022 board, the installation of the new 2022-2023 board, and the passing of the gavel. After a few closing announcements and pictures, the 2022 District Leadership Convention was officially adjourned by the new Indiana District Governor, Louis Gallegos.
Special thanks to our Event Planning Committee and the 2021-2022 INDB for planning, setting up, and overseeing the event.
